Over 1360 people joined us this year for our annual Expert Insights webinar series. In a total of seven webinars we heard from ten outstanding speakers, all experts in their respective online safety-related fields as they shared unique insights, knowledge and best practices that will aid us in making informed decisions for the protection of young people online. With the support of our engaged participants we examined critical topics like safety by design, generative AI, safety in online gaming, digital empowerment, and mental health for content analysts.


We kicked off the season with Elyse Lee, Head of Policy and Engagement at ZEPETO as she shared how they foster platform safety through education and empowerment. She took attendees through ZEPETO’s holistic online safety approach and shared various intuitive safety tools developed to engagingly equip young users with critical digital safety knowledge. Next we moved to generative AI (GenAI), a topic that has been at the forefront of all current online safety discussions. An experienced analyst from the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), INHOPE’s British member hotline, demonstrated how perpetrators online exploit AI models to create harmful material. INHOPE's Annual Report 2023 was presented by Abby Roberts and Kalina Zografska, highlighting key achievements in combating child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online. The report showcased the impact of our expanded network, increased efficiency in content removal, and advancements in technology and training for hotline analysts. Read full webinar recap.

David Hunter VP of Platform Trust & Safety at Resolver, a Kroll Business joined this webinar season to explain how to recognise and uncover threat actor networks online. Attendees learned about what Resolver calls 'content of interest to predators (COITP)' and how collections of this material on open platforms can serve as a gateway for predators to connect and access increasingly abusive content. How to ensure safe experiences for young gamers online, was addressed by Jen Weedon, from Niantic's Trust and Safety team. She explained all the methods her team employs to rigorously test their products and features for potential safety weak spots. She highlighted the benefits of following a safety by design approach, both from a organisational and business perspective. Read full webinar recap.

Industry experts Henry Adams and Danielle Williams from Resolver, a Kroll Business discussed the misuse of GenAI n child exploitation. They detailed how predators use GenAI to create and distribute harmful content, emphasising the need for behavior-based detection methods and collaborative efforts to combat these threats. The session highlighted the importance of updating policies and implementing safeguards to protect against the evolving risks posed by GenAI. Read full webinar recap.

Lastly, we were joined by Catherine Knibbs who led a webinar on cybertrauma for CSAM analysts, exploring its complexities and how it uniquely affects individuals. She underscored the necessity of trauma-responsive work environments that cater to diverse needs, promoting a supportive culture for mental and physical well-being. Catherine emphasized the crucial role of personalised self-care strategies in mitigating the impact of trauma. Read full webinar recap
