10th conference on the topic of online child abuse in Slovenia

On 22 September, the Spletno oko hotline (part of Safer Internet Center Slovenia), Criminal Police Directorate of the General Police Directorate and the Association of Informatics and Telecommunications organized the 10th conference on online child sexual abuse.

More than 150 police officers and about 450 participants from other professional fields attended the online conference. The event was aimed at those who are confronted with the problem of sexual abuse of children in their work, in particular law enforcement agencies, legislators, educational and social workers and non-governmental organizations. The main objective was to increase knowledge on this topic in order to be able to deal with cases more effectively in practice.

In his introductory speech, Anton-Toni Klančnik, child protection expert at the European Cybercrime Centre - EC3, pointed out the importance of cooperation between experts on this complex issue and warned of the growing number of cases of online abuse in times of a pandemic. Following his speech, three lecturers presented their experiences and observations on the topic: Robert Tekavec, head of the department for Juvenile Delinquency at Criminal Police Directorate, Katja Vlasak from the Maribor Centre for Social Work, and Nina Babič, counselor at the Martin Konšak Primary School. They all agreed on the importance of cooperation between their institutions and also other organizations that can offer help or advice on how to react in cases of child sexual abuse online.
