Lectures, online courses, and trainings by SCF Finnish hotline

SCF Finnish Hotline Manager and Senior Advisor Eeva Myllys and Advisor Eveliina Karhu lectured about the prevention of child sexual abuse at one of the biggest events for social work professionals in Finland before the COVID-19 pandemic brought about restrictions to such gatherings. The event was organised by The Union of Professional Social Workers Talentia and the lecture received highly positive feedback.

Finnish Hotline Advisors Janita Tasa and Eveliina Karhu also created three online courses on child sexual abuse and exploitation and on protecting children online for the University of Helsinki. The courses were recorded and shared via a web-based learning platform. The online courses and the material are targeted for teachers’ in-service training. In addition, advisor Eveliina Karhu held three lectures at ”Espoon digimessut”, an event for educators in Espoo, Finland, in February.

Finnish Hotline Advisor Pauliina Sillfors trained over 600 youth workers, other professionals and volunteers who work with young people about how to protect children from grooming. The trainings were part of a nationwide training tour organised by Koordinaatti, held in eight major cities in Finland. The training tour could fast adapt to the new COVID-19 situation, and the last training was organised online. The trainings received excellent feedback and will be followed by a new manual that the Finnish Hotline is contributing to.
