Why do you work at INHOPE?
I'm really proud to be part of the global effort keeping the internet safe and protecting children from abuse. I have an enormous amount of respect for the analysts who work to get child sexual abuse material (CSAM) removed from the internet and I love that I can support this work by creating content and organising webinars which promote awareness and understanding on pressing issues.
How do you spend your weekends?
If I can’t go camping and hiking, the next best thing is getting lost in a good book. My favourite recently was Kazuro Ishiguro’s The Remains of the Day. Having spent 6 years studying philosophy, I love the main character’s ponderings on the concept of dignity, and the question of a life well-lived. It’s a reminder to keep questioning our choices, and the risks we take by blindly following those around us. As a Brit who’s spent the last few years living in the Netherlands, there’s also something nostalgic about the laboured upper-class English speech.
What's a fun fact about you?
I once did a 40 metre cliff jump into water while on a road trip in Australia. Just before I jumped I was told “Whatever you do, don’t hold your nose. The last guy who did that broke his nose from the impact”. I survived it with all bones and cartilage intact.
