Lectures on "Sexting, Sextortion, Grooming and Child Sexual Abuse".

Within the framework of the European co-funded project "CyberSafety - Better Internet for Kids", the Cyprus Safer Internet Center, organizes lectures at public and private schools, relevant to Sexting, Sextortion, Grooming and Child Sexual Abuse.

The purpose of these sessions is to inform students about the benefits of the internet and about the risks that they can be exposed to with the abuse of the internet. Particularly, the lectures focus on the risks of sending sexts and the sharing of personal material to other people online and the possible consequences.

Specifically, the lectures highlight the need for students to face peer pressure to send naked pictures (sexts) and to understand the possible effects of sending a sext, including legal consequences. In addition, the lectures outline the need for students to be selective about what they share online and to be wary of anyone they encounter online. Students have to be aware that people can pretend to be anything or anyone online and they should avoid sharing personal information/photos with someone they do not know or meet up with someone they meet online.

At the same time, officers of the Cyprus Safer Internet Center, have the opportunity to inform students and teachers about the operation of the 1480 Hotline and Helpline and advise them how to use these to report an incident.
