Finnish Hotline Receives Trusted Flagger Status
The Digital Services Act (DSA) regulates online intermediary services and platforms with the main objectives of enhancing transparency, accountability, and consumer protection, as well as preventing illegal conduct online, including the spread of harmful content across social media services.
Although the DSA came into force in 2022, the implementation of its content and requirements across various digital services has been progressing at different rates. Online platforms are now obligated to prioritise reports received from nationally selected Trusted Flaggers. These Trusted Flaggers play an essential role in fulfilling the objectives of the DSA, as their extensive experience and expertise ensure that only relevant content is flagged for removal. Their specific rights and responsibilities contribute to faster and more effective responses to illegal content.
Save the Children Finland which operates the Finnish Hotline Nettivihje has recently been granted the status of Trusted Flagger by the Finnish Transport and Communications Authority Traficom.
"For us as a hotline, it is important that we are involved in safeguarding digital environments and preventing online sexual violence against children." - Save the Children Finland
