Telefono Azzurro Onlus took part in a Conference for the Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2022-2027) called, “Beyond the horizon: a new era for the rights of the child." The event aimed to launch the Rome Strategy adopted by the Committee of Ministers on 23 February 2022.

One theme that Professor Caffo was invited to address was “Upholding the rights of the child in a fast-evolving technological world." In this high-level discussion, he addressed how the issue of online child sexual abuse and exploitation must be confronted by innovative digital spaces such as the Metaverse.

Protecting children in online spaces and in the upcoming Metaverse will need to go beyond warning labels and policies, by considering tackling the problem at its roots, with education and awareness campaigns. In particular, enhancing the role of the hotlines in such an environment is a key asset to detecting and reporting child sexual abuse or exploitation.
