The BeSmartOnline! Project

Malta's leading Safer Internet Centre, BeSmartOnline! (BSO), is now launching a new project phase co-funded by the European Commission - Digital Europe which started on the 1st of October 2022 and ends on the 30th of September 2024.

The project's strength lies in its strong cooperation between the entities involved; led by FSWS - Aġenzija Appoġġ, together with The Office for the Commissioner for Children, The Ministry of Education - Directorate for Learning and Assessment Unit, and The Malta Police Force - Cybercrime Unit. Each consortium member has a vital role to play in educating, supporting, consulting with minors, and intervening, when necessary, with the takedown of harmful and illegal material.

The BSO project plans to bring more opportunities for the public to learn what risks and dangers the online world presents to young children and youths, not only with the materials shared in schools through the Personal, Social and Career Development syllabus but also with additional awareness sessions held by the team for minors and supporting parents alike. There will be training sessions for teachers and professionals involved with nurturing these young minds. A tool kit will be developed and shared with organisations that work with young people to support them with resources relating to online safety. The BSO will continue to emphasise its efforts and celebrations around Safer Internet Day.

In collaboration with the BSO, a local music band, The Travellers, wrote and produced a song related to cyberbullying called SIMILI. The music video will be used for awareness campaigns by BeSmartOnline! Project.
