Telefono Azzurro - Safer Internet Day 2023
Safer Internet Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the conscious and responsible use of the Internet. But what is the Internet today and what is it becoming? The metaverse, multiverse and other new online interaction methods have become prominent topics in recent years, and new technological developments require fresh approaches to guarantee the safety of children and adolescents online.
The Safer Internet Day event 2023, organised by the S.O.S. Telefono Azzurro Onlus was held on the 6th and 7th of February. The goal was to analyse the challenges and opportunities that will arise as the digital world evolves especially in the context of our youngest users. Experts, academics and institutional figures addressed the issue from many perspectives, committing themselves to implement concrete actions to make the digital world a safer place for children and adolescents.
February 6th, Milan - Università Cattolica del Sacro
Within the academic setting of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Telefono Azzurro's Safer Internet Day opened with a plenary session on general issues regarding the future of kids in digital and how they are active data providers today. A report prepared by Telefono Azzurro in collaboration with Doxa Kids was presented to the audience. The following discussion yielded five working groups, each of which addressed a distinct thematic area all linked by a common threat: The centrality of the child.
February 7th, Rome - Aula dei Gruppi, Palazzo dei Gruppi
Safer Internet Day continued with a second day featuring institutional, national and international speakers who addressed the issues of the previous session. The identified challenges were analysed in a regulatory context and concrete action steps were implemented to safeguard and protect children in a digital environment. At the same time, a workshop was held inside Binario F in Rome, which was attended by several schools and students from all over Italy, together with Stardust influencers: a way to make kids the protagonists of a day that remains dedicated to them.
