Safer Internet Centre in Albania Publishes Annual ReportĀ 

The report was published within the framework of the 10th National Forum: "Together Against Bullying and Hate Speech in Cyberspace," organised annually for Safer Internet Day by CRCA Albania and the Safer Internet Center

According to the data, iSIGURT.al received 407 reports of online incidents in 2024, marking a 66.8% increase compared to the previous year. Tirana, the capital of Albania, recorded the highest number of incidents, accounting for 48% of all cases.

Demographics

Girls remain the primary victims of online incidents and are also the main reporters of serious online violence and exploitation in the digital space. Approximately 62% of reports to iSIGURT.al were submitted by girls, while 34% came from boys. In 4% of cases, the reporter preferred not to disclose their gender. Girls also constitute the majority of victims in 47% of analysed cases (193 incidents). Children as a group rank second, making up 15% of cases, while boys and adults account for approximately 12% each.

Online Platforms

TikTok continues to lead as the digital platform with the highest number of reported incidents among children and young people, with 209 cases. It is followed by Facebook and Instagram, which collectively account for 118 cases, while Telegram was reported in 8 incidents. Adolescents aged 15-18 remain the most active age group in reporting online incidents (43%), followed by individuals aged 19-24 (19%) and 25-30 (15%).

The classification of incidents reported to iSIGURT.al indicates that online extortion, threats, and blackmail pose the greatest risk to children and young people in the digital space, with 177 cases (25% of total incidents). Bullying and hate speech rank second this year, accounting for approximately 40% of all cases.

The report recommends strengthening the legal framework for cyber protection, which would enhance the safety of children and young people. It also emphasises the importance of raising awareness among both children and parents about the risks present in the digital space.
