SafeLine: Delivering Training Seminars In Schools all around Greece
As part of its awareness-raising initiatives, the Greek Hotline, SafeLine, conducts online informative sessions and onsite training seminars, for both public and private schools. The seminars focus on topics such as exposure to inappropriate content, Sexting, Sextortion, Grooming, and Child Sexual Abuse on the internet.
The objective of these training seminars is to educate students about the benefits of the internet and the potential dangers. More specifically, they focus on the risks related to Sexting and the sharing of personal information online, highlighting the potential consequences of such actions. In particular, the seminars underscore the peer pressure that students may face by unknown individuals, who appear as friends, to share explicit intimate pictures, photos or videos, and to understand the importance of the consequences of such sharing, including the legal implications. Moreover, the students are advised to be selective about what they share online and to be aware of anyone they meet online.
Students need to be aware that individuals online can potentially use fake identities, and it is thus crucial for them to refrain from sharing personal information or photos with unknown individuals. Additionally, caution should be exercised when considering meeting someone in person whom they have met online. During the seminars, the students are informed about the operation of SafeLine, and the ways of reporting online illegal content and illegal activities. Furthermore, they are informed about the possibility of using the StopNCII and the Take-it-Down services, offered by the UK Helpline and the USA NCMEC Organisation, to stop non-consensual intimate image sharing and abuse online, in case they have fallen victim to such an incident. In 2023, SafeLine and the Greek Safer Internet Center delivered over 100 training seminars, half of which were onsite visits to various regions of Greece.
