SafeLine Celebrates the 20th Annual Safer Internet Day

On the occasion of the 20th annual Safer Internet Day (SID), the Greek hotline, SafeLine, took an active part in the celebrations. SafeLine participated in implementing the awareness-raising material created for SID 2023, specifically on the brochure for parents about 'online grooming.'

Hotline representatives gave presentations at several informative online events for students and a webinar for parents and educators concerning the topic of fighting child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online. Moreover, SafeLine Greece published a press release highlighting the hotline's reporting statistics from the previous year.

During the SID celebrations, various vital informants, such as public figures and local politicians, presented the actions and mission of the Greek hotline. Furthermore, SafeLine Greece participated in the online national survey about grooming and online bullying in schools, with over 4000 participating teachers.

The insightful results of the survey demonstrated that nine per cent of secondary school educators had experienced how a student became a victim of grooming or sextortion. Six per cent of secondary school educators had previously realised that a student had become a victim of online sexual abuse. The most alarming outcome, however, was that forty-three per cent of secondary school teachers surveyed reported knowing of students communicating with strangers online.
