Reflection on Key Child Protection Events: ACSAI’s Global Contributions
ACSAI was honoured to participate in the 2024 Child Trauma Conference in South Africa. The event offered crucial insights into child protection, particularly on Harmful Sexual Behaviors (HSB), the impact of pornography on youth, and child-on-child abuse.
These discussions enriched ACSAI’s ongoing work against Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA) and Intimate Image Abuse (IIA), highlighting the need to involve boys as victims in child protection strategies. Networking opportunities at the conference also helped advance shared best practices. At the Media Engagement Workshop to End Child Marriage in Nigeria, organised by the National Coalition of Civil Society, with partnership from Girls Not Brides, ACSAI reinforced its advocacy efforts. The workshop focused on enhancing media reporting on child marriage and explored strategies to combat biases and power dynamics. ACSAI emphasised aligning child protection with youth-friendly sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services.
Additionally, ACSAI contributed to a Stakeholders Webinar on the COSPRA Summit 2023 recommendations, tackling Child Online Protection (COP) and privacy. A meeting with TikTok further advanced ACSAI’s initiatives to combat online violence through new tools like TikTok's Safety Enforcement Tool (TSET) and Community Partner Channel (CPC), fostering collaboration with digital platforms to protect children and vulnerable groups online.
