Red PaPaz: Cooperation between Hotline, Community and Law Enforcement
Over the past month, thanks to the reports made by users through Te Protejo hotline important actions were taken by law enforcement agencies in Colombia to combat the commercial sexual exploitation of children in the country.
The report described a disturbing incident where a mother used her children in the production of CSAM and was found to be selling it internationally. The community became aware of the situation and reported on the "Te Protejo" website. Once we channelled the report with Colombian law enforcement, they moved as quickly as possible to the children’s house and took them to a safe place with their extended family. Te Protejo also contacted the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare, which promptly addressed the situation by initiating a process to restore the basic rights of the children involved. The aggressor was apprehended for her criminal acts against the children.
This case has been fundamental to the fight against CSEA in the country and serves as a demonstration of the cooperation between the hotline, the LEA, and the community. The community, unafraid to raise their voices, came together to protect children's rights.
