Interview with Aurora Sotiri
What is your role at INHOPE and how long have you been working there?
My current role at INHOPE is Marketing Communications Officer and I’ve been with INHOPE since April 2023, the first three months I worked as an Intern.
If you had to name 3 things you learned or gained from your internship at INHOPE, what would they be?
I definitely have to narrow down my list for this. The things I would like to place as a top three would be:
- Learning about the sensitivity of the topic and being able to write about it accordingly
- Prioritising my workload
- Developing an eye for design
How was your transition from Intern to employee?
It was smooth and quicker than I had anticipated. When I started as an employee, I already knew the team, their roles and knew where to ask for guidance or additional information. The opportunity to onboard at a more measured pace as an intern, made me feel more confident in my abilities, contributing to a consistently high level of performance in my current role. In my past jobs in other companies, it usually took more time for me to get to that point.
What does a typical workday for you look like?
My usual workday includes team meetings, research, content drafting, and managing INHOPE’s social media. Tasks are assigned thoughtfully, taking into account the time they require and the overall workload. This approach helps maintain a healthy work-life balance, ensuring we can handle everything during our regular working hours.
How would you describe the work culture within INHOPE?
It's a welcoming and transparent environment where openness is valued. We're all passionate about our work and genuinely believe in the organisation's mission. Personally, what I appreciate most about INHOPE is the diversity and friendliness of the team. Professionally, I'm grateful for the recognition and value placed on my work. I'm always encouraged to enhance my skills and take on more responsibilities, which motivates me to continually strive for improvement.
What would you say to someone considering applying for an INHOPE internship?
Go for it. Personally, I had prior work experience in my home country, and I used to believe that internships were mainly for university students. However, INHOPE deviates from the usual. I see it more as a traineeship. So, even if you're a young professional with transferable skills looking to switch your career path and join an organization with a strong mission, INHOPE might be the place for you.
I'm always encouraged to enhance my skills and take on more responsibilities, which motivates me to continually strive for improvement.
