Hotline.ie Marks SID 2025: Prepare, Protect, Thrive – Navigating Algorithms & Influencers
This month, Hotline.ie participated in the Safer Internet Day event organised by the Irish Safer Internet Centre, in collaboration with Webwise, ISPCC, the National Parents Council, and Hotline.ie.
Many topics were covered during the day, with particular focus on social media algorithms and digital media literacy, to explore how young people engage with the online world, and the many challenges they face while navigating it.
To reflect on these subjects, a number of experts were invited to share their insights and experiences, offering valuable perspectives on how to empower and equip children in staying safe online. The event featured presentations and panel discussions including the participation of Hotline.ie’s CEO Mick Moran, with the highlight being the involvement of the Webwise Youth Advisory Panel which shared their firsthand perspectives on using the internet and social media. Their passion and engagement were inspiring, sparking discussions among the people that were present.
The day underscored the importance of ongoing dialogue about online safety, digital literacy, and the influence of algorithms on our daily lives. As the digital world continues to evolve, it is essential that we work together to ensure young people are not only safe online but are also equipped with the skills to critically navigate and make informed decisions.
Safer Internet Day 2025 served as a powerful reminder that everyone - youth, parents, educators, and policymaker - has a role to play in shaping a safer, more informed internet. We look forward to continuing these conversations and collaborations to create a positive digital future for the next generation
