ACSAI: Empowering Safer Digital Spaces for Children
In the previous month, ACSAI's efforts focused on empowering parents, caregivers, and communities to ensure a safer digital environment for children. A key highlight was our participation in the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) event, where the Standard Operating Procedures for Child Online Protection draft (SOP4COP) were presented.
This marked a significant step toward safeguarding children online. ACSAI also contributed to the validation of online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA) reporting channels, integrating stakeholders like law enforcement and NGOs into a national platform. Key action areas of SOP4COP include promoting healthy relationships between children and caregivers, enhancing online activity monitoring, and implementing effective incident management. To sustain Child Online Protection, ACSAI emphasises public awareness, education, and stakeholder collaboration.
Our Safe Hub Club initiative continues to provide culturally sensitive resources on online safety. Additionally, ACSAI's participation in a four-day capacity training for Nigerian Police CID Gender Desk Officers highlighted the importance of a dedicated Safer Internet Center in Nigeria.
We achieved a milestone with an increased number of reports on our platform, aiming to combat OCSEA and related issues. As we move forward, we’re excited to launch upcoming youth engagement initiatives like "The Digital Diaries" to promote safer internet use.
