Tackling the sadistic online exploitation of children in online gaming

Join us for the last session of our Expert Insights webinar series in 2026 to examine how extremist networks are exploiting online gaming to target, groom, and radicalise children - and what hotlines, platforms, and law enforcement can do together to respond.

Schedule & Registration

Date: Thursday, June 25, 2026
Time: 16:00 CEST / 1 PM GMT / 8 AM EST / 11 AM KST
Speakers: Tech Coalition, Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT), and Discord.

This session is restricted to approved attendees and will not be recorded.

About

Offender tactics are diversifying. Gaming platforms have increasingly become a target for extremists seeking to groom, manipulate, and recruit children — deliberately exploiting the immersive and social features of these environments to operate beneath the radar of traditional detection methods. This is an escalating form of online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA), with real-world consequences including psychological harm, radicalisation, and violence.

Across the INHOPE network, hotlines are increasingly witnessing this trend. This session brings together experts from GIFCT, Tech Coalition, and Discord to examine how extremist networks are attempting to weaponise gaming spaces, where the threat vectors of terrorism and violent extremism overlap with OCSEA, which children are most at risk, and what tactics are used to perpetrate abuse and evade detection.

This is a closed session intended for law enforcement, hotline representatives, and staff from technology companies.

Objectives

  • Understand how extremist networks target and exploit children in online gaming environments, and where OCSEA and violent extremism intersect.
  • Identify which children are most at risk, and learn what tactics are used to perpetrate abuse and evade detection.
  • Explore actionable approaches to cross-sector collaboration between hotlines, platforms, and law enforcement to disrupt these threats.

The Expert Insights webinar series 2026 is funded by the European Commission as part of the Better Internet for Kids Programme under the Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL).
